AFL games could be played without fans

AFL CEO Gill McLachlan has conceded that games will be played with no spectator attendance if the Victorian Government bans mass gatherings amid concerns around the coronavirus.

McLachlan fronted the media on Tuesday afternoon reassuring fans that at this stage it is business as usual.

“The safety of our players, staff at clubs, venues, our supporters and even our own office is paramount. McLachlan said.

“It is important that we take the advice of those who know best. That advice to date is for people to take care of their personal hygiene and to get themselves checked if they feel they have flu-like symptoms, but also to go about their usual routine be it work, personal lives or sport.

“Our clubs, players and fans know that if a response is required, then we will be well-planned and ready.

“If mass gatherings are suspended, then we will play games in stadiums with no crowds.”
