AFL return fixture revealed

The AFL has confirmed the rescheduled fixtures for rounds 2-5 of the season restart.

As expected Collingwood and Richmond will relaunch the season with a Thursday night blockbuster, while Geelong will play Hawthorn at GMHBA stadium on Friday night after the AFL ticked off the Cats request to play all their home games at the venue.

Fremantle and West Coast will both play on Saturday June 13th, with the Dockers to play Brisbane Lions at the Gabba on Saturday afternoon and the Eagles to face the Gold Coast Suns at Metricon Stadium on the Saturday night.

Both WA clubs will absorb one 'home' game as part of the month they spend in the sunshine state, with the Dockers match in round 3 against Port Adelaide and the Eagles round 5 fixture against Richmond considered home games.

With crowds set to be shunned from games until at least the back end of the season, AFL general manager of clubs and broadcasting Travis Auld emphasised the importance of rivalries and blockbuster fixtures as part of the draw reveal.

"To re-launch the season we have focused on scheduling blockbuster match-ups across these four weeks, particularly in the Thursday and Friday night primetime slots," Auld said.

The next set of fixtures are set to be released two weeks in to the resumption of the season, with both WA and SA clubs hopeful of returning home in line with adjusted and eased state government restrictions.
