Aloisi the man for Victory job: Bolton

Former A-League and Socceroo goalkeeper Clint Bolton has called for Melbourne Victory to hire Australian football legend John Aloisi as their next coach, after Marco Kurz was sacked by the club on Wednesday.

Now an expert for Football Nation, Bolton told SportsDrive on Thursday that the former Melbourne Heart and Brisbane Roar coach was the best choice for the role.

"I think he's a good fit for Victory. It's different environment, they are better resourced, he's also worked for Melbourne Victory in the academy and NPL system before he took up the Brisbane job so he has an attachment with the club, so for me the natural fit is John Aloisi."

The former Sydney FC championship player suggested that former Socceroo and Melbourne Victory player Harry Kewell would not put his name forward for the position.

"I'm not so sure about Harry to be honest," Bolton said.

"I've had some discussions with him around coaching when I was at Melbourne Heart. He's a really passionate guy not only when he was playing football but when he decided to go down the coaching road."

" I was intrigued by his attitude around how he was going to coach. He's got an old school coaching mentality driven by discipline and hard work, and I'm of the belief that in the modern era, when you are dealing with modern players you really need to be a modern coach in the frame of some of the best in the world like Klopp, Pep (Guardiola) and Pochettino. I just feel Harry is a bit more old school."

Kewell last coached at the professional level in 2018, when he was manager of Notts County in the English Football League Two competition. He was sacked after 14 games in charge.

Victory play Adelaide United in round 15 under the leadership of caretaker coach Carlos Salvachua on Friday night, the match to be broadcast on 91.3 Sport FM courtesy of Football Nation.
