Antonio hangs up the boots

Former Dockers captain Kara Antonio has announced her retirement set to play her final game this weekend.

Antonio suffered a serious hamstring injury during pre-season that has ruled her out of playing a match until now.

The 30-year-old has completed her rehabilitation and will run out when the Dockers face Hawthorn at Fremantle Oval on the weekend.

Antonio said she had thought long and hard about the decision.

“When you get injured, the worst things probably go through your mind – whether you can keep going and get back,”

“The high performance and medical team have been incredible. To get me in a position to where I’m able to get back and play, I’m very grateful.

“To have my last farewell game and the last game of the season at home is pretty special.”

It's not expected that Antonio will be lost to the club as she has taken up the role as forwards coach whilst injured during AFLW season 7.
