Aussie men's number one out of home slam

Rising Aussie Tennis star Alex De Minaur is out of the Australian Open with an abdominal injury.

The injury occurred after a hectic schedule during the ATP cup tournament where he played five matches in nine days.

De Minaur is set to be on the sidelines for four weeks however a final resting period has not been determined.

"It's not great, I'm [not] going to lie," de Minaur told a media conference.

"Obviously it's a week of the calendar that I really look forward to and put in all the hard work for, so it's pretty devastating to miss out on my home Slam."

"Getting out of bed hurts, everyday activity, it hurts. So I was being optimistic … everyone was telling me not to play. It is the smartest thing."
