Barty to face qualifier in Aus Open first round

World number one Ash Barty has drawn a unseeded qualifier in the opening round of the Australian Open.

The draw was delayed for more than one hour on Thursday afternoon with no explanation from tournament organisers.

Aussie young gun Storm Sanders will face No.2 seed Aryna Sabalenka in round one in what could be considered a daunting draw.

Main Aussie men's hope Alex DiMinaur will have a rare experience advantage in his first-round match-up with 19-year-old Italian Lorenzo Musetti.

Nick Kyrgios will play in the Australian Open after shaking off COVID and will play off against a qualifier in the first round.

The Australian Open begins on Monday.
