Cotton clutch as Cats win classic

The Perth Wildcats have toppled ladder leaders the Sydney Kings on their home floor 98-85.

Bryce Cotton scored 39 points in a game deciding display landing a series of emphatic buckets to swing the result the Wildcats way.

Cotton drained five threes late in the game to give the Wildcats their 13th win of the season and a second straight win over the Kings. Cotton's 39 points were an NBL20 season high, breaching his own record of 36 points against the Kings at the same venue earlier in the season.

Souring the win was what looks like an ankle injury to skipper Damian Martin during the third quarter.

In a pulsating high intensity contest between the top two teams in the NBL20 competition, point guards Cotton and Kings star Casper Ware traded blows from beyond the arc in the final term.

Andrew Bogut provided an individual highlight just before quarter time, with a slam dunk for the highlights reel that reduced the visitors lead to two at the first change.

The Kings took control in the second term, outscoring their opponents 28-22 to lead by six at the half off the back of some more Ware dominance.

The arm wrestle continued in the third, Cotton and Terrico White coming up trumps for Perth while Mitch Norton and Jesse Wagstaff made scoring cameos off the bench.

Ware finished the term by dropping a bomb for the Kings from long range, proceeding to add another three 3 pointers early in the last to give his team all the momentum.

Cotton sealed the deal for the Cats to give them confident ahead of the next few weeks on the road.

Perth are back in action on New Year's Day against the Adelaide 36ers at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre, while the Kings play New Year's Eve against bottom placed Illawarra Hawks.
