Daniher opts out of Bombers

Essendon forward Joe Daniher is set to inform the club of his desire to exercise his rights as a free agent to leave the Bombers, set to move North to join Brisbane.

As a restricted free agent Essendon can match any offer put forward by the Lions or other rival clubs should they wish to force a trade.

The news comes 24 hours after speedster Adam Saad also opted out of the club, sighting a lack of direction in requesting a move to arch rivals Carlton.

Essendon will be coached by Ben Rutten in season 2021 after taking over the reins from John Worsfold in a succession plan, now thin in key forward stocks with James Stewart and swingman Cale Hooker the sole tall options in attack after Shaun McKernan's delisting at the end of the season.

26 year old Daniher tried to move to Sydney last off-season but the move was blocked by the Bombers at the eleventh hour, under contract for 2020.

Son of former Bombers and Swans defender Anthony Daniher, the key forward played just four games this season and only 15 matches since the start of 2018.
