Demons set to lose Ninyette

Perth small forward Cody Ninyette is likely to move to South Fremantle for the 2020 WAFL season, while the future of long kicking midfielder Cody Leggett remains in doubt as he pursues a move to East Fremantle.

Perth Football Operations Manager Dale Ballantyne told SportsDrive on Wednesday Ninyette was set to move clubs after discussions with the Demons before Christmas.

"Cody wanted to return to his original club," Ballantyne said. "We have agreed to let him train with South Fremantle pending a transfer or a clearance."

Ninyette has kicked 75 goals in 50 matches for Perth, winning the leading goalkicking award in 2017 and 2018 having moved from the South Fremantle development system as a Colts product in 2015.

Ballantyne said the club was bullish on retaining Leggett, who has requested a move to East Fremantle despite being under contract to the Demons for 2020.

"Cody is a required player at Perth Football Club and contracted, we would like to think he will still be playing with us this year but at this stage we still have a bit of work to do for that to happen." he said.

Negotiations continue between the parties, with the matter likely to require arbitration.

The Demons open their 2020 season on Friday April 3rd, under lights against West Coast Eagles Reserves.
