Dockers coach praises team in "pretty special" performance

Dockers coach Justin Longmuir has described Saturday night's win against the Western Bulldogs as a "pretty special" victory.

Fremantle came from 41-points down to record a famous 11.7.73 to 8.12.60 in front of nearly 60,000 fans.

Longmuir said it takes a lot of belief to do what they did.

"We’ve been working on our mental skills for three years since I got here and it’s for moments like this where you feel like you’re done but you stick to the task and you try and claw your way back into it. I’m so proud of the players."

While celebrating the victory Longmuir was able to put the poor start into context.

"We didn’t handle the contest well. We fumbled. Their pressure was a lot better than ours but I thought the way we used the ball invited their pressure. We tried to handball over, and once we started to drive our legs and take the game on and force them to actually stick good tackles the game opened up for us. We were just way too safe in the contest, fumbly and they burnt us on turnover."

The Dockers will take on the Pies at the MCG next Saturday and Longmuir says the group will embrace the challenge like they have every away game this season.

"We’ve won I think seven games and had a draw on the road. We feel like we are a good travelling team. It’s going to be a big challenge and one we are ready for. We’ve won our only game at the MCG this year so our players should go with a lot of confidence."
