Dockers young guns recognised

Caleb Serong, Andrew Brayshaw, Adam Cerra and big man Sean Darcy have been recognised for their impressive 2020 seasons at AFL level.

Serong was awarded the AFL Players Association best first year player, while Brayshaw, Cerra and Darcy were all named in the under 22's best 22 side for 2020.

Voted by his peers, Serong was rewarded for his excellent first season, which saw him average 17 disposals, four tackles and 3.4 clearances in 14 games, playing every match from his debut against Gold Coast in round 4.

The teenager joins dual Brownlow medallists Adam Goodes and Chris Judd as well as former Dockers Michael Barlow, Paul Hasleby and Rhys Palmer in winning the award.

The 19 year old was perhaps surprisingly overlooked for under 22 side honours, but midfield team mates Cerra and Brayshaw were named on the interchange bench while ruckman Darcy was named as the lead ruck.

West Australian products Liam Baker (Richmond) and Aaron Naughton (Western Bulldogs) also made the team, while no one from West Coast was selected.

Serong is the favourite for the AFL Rising Star Award, which will be awarded on Thursday.
