Eagles cause upset running over Pies

The Eagles are on the board in season 2022 the undermanned outfit knocking over the Pies in Melbourne by 13-points.

West Coast were seven-points down at three quarter time and went onto boot five of the six goals in the last quarter to run over the top of the home side to record a 14.3.87 to 14.14.74 victory.

Josh Kennedy and Willie Rioli booted three goals each while Liam Ryan and Jack Darling kicked two majors.

Eagles coach Adam Simpson said he was "relieved" for the players to have been rewarded for effort.

“Let’s be honest. It’s relief to get the monkey off the back and then hopefully we get a few players back in the next few weeks.

“A lot of the numbers suggest that perhaps we shouldn’t have won that one,”

“But I’ve been banging on a little bit about the spirit of the group and how connected they are, so I think that above strategy helped us out in the last quarter."

West Coast are expected to welcome back a host of stars including Luke Shuey, Tim Kelly and Elliott Yeo for Good Friday's clash against the Swans.
