Elrich dreams of ACL glory

New Perth Glory recruit Tarek Elrich has high hopes for the second half of the season, having joined the club only a fortnight ago.

The former Western Sydney Wanderers, Newcastle Jets and Adelaide United defender has reunited with former WSW coach Tony Popovic, having been released from the Wanderers last month.

The 33 year old said it had been a seamless transition since joining his fourth A-League club.

"Not many people want to take a punt on a 33 year old, but Tony knows what I can bring to a team not just on the pitch but off it, I'm buzzing to be here in a great team." Elrich told Sports Drive on Tuesday.

"With the Asian Champions League coming up I thought it was a good time and hopefully finish my career on a high."

Elrich has played the past two matches off the bench against Melbourne Victory and Wellington Phoenix, and adds depth to Perth's defensive stocks.

The former Socceroo had high praise for young team mate Nick D'Agastino, who scored a brace against the Phoenix.

"He's a quality player, he's just direct, he's got an eye for goals and he just wants to score goals which is great." he said.

"In saying that he works hard for it too, he doesn't just stand around goal hoping the ball comes to him, he's running from the middle of nowhere and getting rewarded for it."

"It's great for him, particularly with an Olympic campaign coming up, it's not every day you get to call yourself an Olympian so he's just got to keep going and now the hard work begins scoring goals, now we expect him to score every week."

Elrich is excited about the upcoming Asian Champions League campaign, which starts against FC Tokyo next Tuesday.

"That was the biggest thing that Tony and I spoke about, there's a lot of games to be played and I'll get an opportunity to play in big tournament." he said.

"We're playing this tournament to win it, we want to show people we're not just going to be a mickey mouse team, we're going there to win it."

Perth have the bye this week in the A-League, before heading to Brisbane to play the Roar in round 20.
