Englishman Payne set to pull on Scorchers orange

The Perth Scorchers have finalised their playing squad just hours out from their first match of the tournament.

Experienced English seamer David Payne will take his place in the squad after Tyman Mills ruled himself out due to a family emergency.

31-year-old Payne, a whippy left armer has taken 155 scalps from 126 T20 matches and has recently played a one-day international for England against the Netherlands.

Payne is expected to be available for the second half of the Big Bash tournament.

He said he felt "incredibly excited and lucky."

“I’ve never played in WA but watched a few games at Optus Stadium and it’s a phenomenal ground. We see and hear that the pitches in Australia are a lot quicker than England, so I’m looking forward to that, and I’m really looking forward to the challenge in general.”

Perth are in action on Saturday against the Sydney Sixers before heading to Tasmania to face the Hobart Hurricanes in Launceston on Monday night.
