Fever in to Grand Final

The West Coast Fever will play the Melbourne Vixens in the 2020 Suncorp Super Netball Grand Final, after defeating the Sunshine Coast Lightning 73-59 at USC Stadium on Sunday.

The Fever burst out of the blocks with a 21 goal to 12 first quarter, and the game was never close after that, with West Coast cruising to a 73-59 win, gaining some retribution for their 2018 grand final loss to the Lightning.

It ends the Lightning's sequence of Grand Final appearances in the Super Netball competition, having won premierships in 2017 and 2018 and lost last year's decider to the NSW Swifts.

Jhaniele Fowler scored 60 goals (from 61 attempts) for the Fever, who qualified for their second Grand Final in three seasons after missing finals in 2019.

Captain Courtney Bruce was outstanding for her side, while Verity Charles shut down retiring Australian star Laura Langman in a dominant performance at both ends of the court.

The win was set up early, with the Fever holding a 21-12 lead at the first break before extening the margin to 16 at the half in leading 39-23.

The third term was a closer affair, but Fowler was dominant under the post as she led her side to an 18 goal lead at the final break.

Try as they might the Lightning couldnt force a fightback in the last, Stacey Marinkovich's side through to the decider with a 14 goal win.

The Grand Final will be played next Sunday between the Vixens and Fever at 12PM AEST at Nissan Arena in Brisbane.
