Fever punished for salary cap breach

The West Coast Fever has been handed the biggest punishment in Super Netball history, fined $300,000 and docked 12 premiership points for the 2021 season for breaching the salary cap in both the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
In total, the West Coast Fever made payments of $127,954 above the cap in 2018 and $168,659 over the salary ceiling in 2019.
Half of the fine has been suspended for three years.
The 12 premiership points amount to the equivalent of three wins next year.
Fever reached the grand final of this year’s competition with a record of 8 wins, 5 losses and a draw, but would have missed the finals altogether with three fewer victories.
Super Netball Commission chair Marina Go said the Fever deserved the significant penalty.
“There is no room for this behaviour within our sport and the Commission is disappointed to have to hand down these sanctions,” she said.
The Fever are yet to comment publicly on the punishment, with a statement expected later today.
