Gannon close to WA move
WA men's cricket coach Adam Voges has confirmed the WACA have been in talks with Queensland quick Cameron Gannon about securing his services for the upcoming season.
"We've certainly been in talks with Cameron. We didn't have the penetration that we would have liked [last season] so we have looked around the country to try and find a senior bowler. We've got some really good young talent coming through but perhaps don't have that real senior banker who can put together a full season." Voges told Sports Breakfast.
"Cameron was the leading wicket taker last season, so if we can add him to our list as well as continuing to develop our young fast bowlers that will be a pretty good result."
Voges also spoke about the need to promote spin bowling in WA to add spin depth to the WA side.
"Outside of Ash Agar our development of spin bowling has been lacking. That's something we're looking to address and get some spinners into our squad."
"We need to be able to put some development into these guys 12 months of the year, and help them become the best cricketers they can.
" I think there's some good bowling stocks around WA - Liam O'Connor is one, Corey Rocchiccioli has all the attributes and Haydan Morton has done exceptionally well as well.
"So the guys are there, it's just a case of us having the ability to get them into the program."
