Grand finalists to meet in season opener

The 2021 WAFL grand finalists will go head to head in round one of the new season over the easter weekend.


Subiaco and South Fremantle will meet at Leederville Oval at a day and time to be determined.


Peel Thunder and East Fremantle clash at Lane Group Stadium is what is traditionally a Good Friday match up.


Darren Harris now coaching West Perth will meet his old mob Claremont while East Perth host Swans and Perth and West Coast clash at Mineral Resources Park.


The WAFL grand final will be held on the first Saturday in October a week after the AFL GF in a sign to capture the success of last years late decider.


WAFC Executive Manager WAFL & Talent Scott Baker said all participants should be excited about the 2022 season.


“The 20-round-home-and-away season continues to provide the fairest fixture as well as creating the most exciting state league competition in Australia” Baker said.


“Opening the season across the Easter weekend should attract strong crowds, allowing our family friendly audience to experience and enjoy a WAFL match day full of activities.”


“WAFL clubs continue to create a fantastic atmosphere for fans and families, alongside the unique chance to get close to the action, listen to the coaches and enjoy a kick on the ground at breaks.”


The first nine rounds of the season have been released with everyone meeting each other once with the remainder of the season to be scheduled after round 7 due to the ongoing certainly of the pandemic.
