Green suffers broken finger

Cameron Green will miss the Sydney Test match and the remainder of the Big Bash following confirmation of a broken finger during day two of the Boxing day Test.

Green has a small fracture on his right index finger after copping a short ball from Andrich Nortje that forced the tall all-rounder from the field.

The injury will also prevent him from bowling during South Africa's second batting innings but he will be able to bat if required.

It will be small relief for South Africa after Green claimed his first Test match five wicket haul and career best figures.

Green is expected to go through a period of recovery before being available for Australia's tour of India beginning in February.

Mitchell Starc has also been ruled out of the Sydney Test match with a finger injury with Josh Hazlewood expected to be fit to return for the final match against the Proteas.
