Harris and Pucovski break Shield record

Victorian openers Marcus Harris and Will Pucovski have broken the all time partnership record for any wicket in Sheffield Shield history, adding 486 for the first wicket in their Sheffield Shield match against South Australia at Glenelg Oval.

Having batted through the entire second days play and taken the score from 38 to 418 the pair returned to the batting crease with the Waugh twins record stand of 464 against WA at the WACA in December 1990 well within their sights.

The partnership nudged past Geoff Marsh and Mike Veletta's stand of 431against South Australia early in the day, also surpassing fellow WA pair Chris Rogers and Marcus North's effort of 459 against Victoria in 2006-07.

David Hookes and Wayne Phillips 462 run partnership was moved a spot down the list when the left-right hand combination took their partnership to 463, the all time record belonging to Harris and Pucovski moments later when the score reached 466 without loss, both batsmen on 226 when the milestone was reached.

Harris eventually fell for 239, caught behind of Wes Agar despite replays suggesting the South Australian quick had overstepped to end the alliance at 486.

Pucovski finished unbeaten on 255 to enhance his claims for a baggy green cap this summer, Victoria declaring on 3-564 with a lead of 364.

A century from Travis Head saw South Australia close at 1-172, the Redbacks skipper unbeaten on 107 with the home side still 192 runs short of making the Vics bat a second time with a day's play remaining.
