Hot Pies stun Eagles

The Eagles season is over after a devastating one-point loss to Collingwood on Saturday night.

West Coast had their momentum to snatch victory as they surged forward with less than a minute left on the clock.

Eagle Tom Cole received Tim Kelly's handball, the ground opening up for him. But with the game and his team's season on the line, Magpies midfielder Taylor Adams appeared.

Adams threw his body at the ball, blocking its path into the Eagles' forward 50 followed by the final siren sounded just moments later with the Pies securing a 12.4.76 to 11.9.75 triumph and set up a semi-final clash against Geelong.

Josh Kennedy and Jack Darling were at their best booting three goals for the home side while Nic Naitanui and Liam Ryan were again amongst the Eagles better players.

Eagles coach Adam Simpson left to lament what could have been.

“I thought we didn’t take our chances. We missed a few opportunities. I thought there were patches of really good play for both sides.” Simpson said.

"We spoke to staff and players. Every club has their own story, we’re no different to anyone else, but it’s been a story of sacrifice for everyone.”

Next week Richmond and St Kilda will meet at Metricon Stadium on Friday night while the Cats and Pies do battle at the Gabba on Saturday evening.
