Jones wins Australian Open

Australian golfer Matt Jones has won the Australian Open golf tournament for a second time, winning by one shot to stave off a fast finishing Louis Oosthiuzen.

Jones becomes the 19th player to win the Stonehaven Cup on two occasions, his first triumph coming in 2015.

The 39 year old held a three shot advantage heading in to the final round and didn't concede the lead during Sunday's play, but an eagle on the last hole from South African Oosthiuzen meant that Jones would have to make par on the 18th to secure the title.

He held his nerve despite making a hash of his drive off the tee, making a five foot putt to secure the win with a score of 15 under.

Aaron Pike finished in third place to secure the final spot in the 2020 British Open that was up for grabs at the tournament.

Jones joins illustrious company in becoming a two time Australian Open champion, including Jack Nickalus and Greg Norman.

Attention now turns to the Presidents Cup in Melbourne, Tiger Woods' Team USA playing Ernie Els' International team at The Royal Melbourne Golf Club from Thursday.
