Kenin crowned women's singles champion

American Sofia Kenin is the Australian Open women's singles champion breaking through for her first grand slam victory.


Kenin defeated Garbine Muguruza coming from a set down to record a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory.


At 21-years of age she becomes the youngest champion since 2008.


Double faults were the story of the night for Muguruza who served her eighth on match point.


Kenin said she loved the whole Australian Open experience.


"I am looking forward to coming back here next year." Kenin said.


"I would like to thank the crowd. You guys, these two past weeks have been the best two past weeks have been the best two weeks of my life, so thank you so much. I love you guys, from the bottom of my heart."


Kenin's victory continues a trend of title sharing amongst the women's best with now 11 different winners of the past 13 titles.
