Lachlan Delahunty to seek sixth flag

Sandover medallist Lachlan Delahunty will attempt to win a record sixth flag for Subiaco this season after deciding to put retirement plans on hold for at least another year.

Delahunty will return to Perth tomorrow after being caught in Melbourne since Christmas.

He will return to training after completing two weeks quarantine at home.

The rangy left-footer, who won his fifth grand final last season despite sustaining multiple foot fractures and ruptured ankle ligaments during the second semifinal, will attempt to equal Darren Rumble’s premiership mark.

“I’m going to give it a red hot go,” Delahunty said.

He was undecided about playing on after last year’s triumph, saying after the grand final that he “was cooked”.

But the 2019 Sandover winner signed with Subiaco recently and will try to join a select group of just six players to have won six WAFL flags since the modern finals system was introduced in 1931.
