Lanes big Sunday at the races

On Sunday Damian Lane rode Cox Plate winner Lys Gracieux to victory in the Grade One A$7.5m Arima Kinen in Japan.

Meanwhile, his father Michael trained a double at Bunbury following We've Got Dreams and Western Chant saluting at the line.

It was an extraordinary period for the Lane family but Michael father told SportsLine he was focused on Damian's ride.

"My horse was just about ready to go out luckily enough the jockeys were already legged up and I was able to slip into the jockeys room there and watch the race." Lane said.

Lane admitted he was concerned where the horse was placed in the run.

"Yeah concerned early on there was a few horses that weren't going to carry the grade.

"Lucky enough for him the breaks came on and to have the horse travelling that good it was a bonus to get out of those predicaments."

Lane was hesitant to say whether the win in Japan was greater than the Cox Plate win but nevertheless extremely proud of his son's efforts.

"Yeah enormous (pride), the whole family it's a big rise for everyone and he embraces the family which is really good. Everyone's had a little part in his career, I think it's a big thrill for everyone to watch, he's a great young fella."
