‘Little things’ to decide Cairns series: Chance

Perth Wildcats assistant coach Jacob Chance is confident of a Grand Final appearance for his side in NBL20, heading in to tomorrow night’s game three decider against Cairns.

Perth won the series opener last Friday by a point in a dramatic overtime contest, before Cairns squared the ledger on Sunday with an emphatic 85-74 win at the Cairns Convention Centre.

Despite being outplayed in game two, Chance told Sports Drive on Wednesday that his side would respond quickly and the squad was in good spirits leading in to the cutthroat contest.

“The feeling’s good,” the 26 year old said.

“It’s an exciting time, the guys have worked pretty hard the past couple of days to rectify a couple of things that we have identified from those two games, they’re ready to go for tomorrow night and looking forward to a big game.”

The Taipans will be buoyed by their performance in game one of the series at the same venue, having pushed the reigning champions to the brink on the same court under a week ago and having beaten them by a record margin at the venue in round three of this season.

Chance said that it would be the little things that determine the outcome of the series.

“That’s what the beautiful thing about game one was, both teams had moments where they won 50-50’s, won big rebounds, had a big deflection or made a big play, that’s what it will come down to,” he said.

“It’s two really good teams going at it, we just have to control the things we can control. It could be worse; we could not be in front of our 13,000 fans.”

“We’ve got to use that to our advantage and really bring the energy in the building and set the tone and we’ll be ok.”

Tip off is at 6:30 PM AWST, and you can hear the match live on 91.3 Sport FM.
