Marsh hammers Heat

A dazzling unbeaten 93 off 41 balls from Perth Scorchers Captain Mitch Marsh helped the Perth Scorchers to a 34 run win over the Brisbane Heat at Optus Stadium on Saturday night.

Having won the bat flip and chosen to bat first the Scorchers posted their highest ever BBL total of 3-213, Marsh striking eight sixes and three fours in his domineering knock.

The skipper shared in an unbroken 124 run stand with Cameron Bancroft (41* from 29) as the boundaries came thick and fast in the dying overs.

Earlier Liam Livingstone continued his good form with 39, while fellow opener Josh Inglis contributed 28 from 14 balls in what was a fast start for the home team.

But the night belonged to Marsh, who made his highest score for the franchise having been a member of the squad for all nine editions of the BBL to date.

He was particularly savage on James Pattinson (4 overs for 52) and all time leading BBL wicket taker Ben Laughin (4 overs for 60), taking 23 from the final over and sending the final three deliveries beyond the boundary.

Tom Banton got off to a flier for Brisbane, top scoring with 55 but his dismissal proved crucial, Fawad Ahmed catching a skier off his own bowling.

Chris Lynn could only manage 14 before becoming one of Chris Jordan's two scalps, Joe Burns the only batsman to get going apart from Banton in making 37.

Jhye Richardson and Joel Paris also claimed two wickets for Perth, who record a second straight win courtesy of the 34 run result, Brisbane finishing on 8-179.

Perth head to Hobart to face the Hurricanes on Monday, while the Heat will welcome South African superstar AB DeVilliers for their next match against Adelaide Strikers at the Gabba on Tuesday.
