McGovern out of Lions clash

Jeremy McGovern will miss Saturday's clash against Brisbane after his appeal against a one match sanction handed down by the MRO was dismissed.

McGovern attempted to argue that the contact was below the grade to constitute a charge but he failed to convince the panel.

Post hearing he said that he was disappointed with the decision.

"My intention was to never punch Alex in the head which was the way it got taken and I'm sorry for that to Alex, to the footy club and the fans sorry for letting you down.

"I accept the consequence, it doesn't look great and I headed up making contact with his head.

"We'll move up, I'll support the boys as much as I can while I'm still here."

It was a dirty night for the Eagles defender who was also fined $1000 for pushing Alex Sexton into the fence.

West Coast will now pay $10,000 for its unsuccessful appeal.
