Midnight Blue salutes in Perth Cup

Peters Investments have claimed their tenth Perth Cup win after Midnight Blue landed in front in the feature at Ascot.

The win gave jockey Patrick Carbery his second victory at group two level sitting three wide throughout but was able to find enough room to put enough distance between him and second place Paddy's Shadow.

Fast finishing Platoon finished third in an exciting finish.

Owner Bob Peters said post-race that despite it being his tenth cup win the first one is always the most special.

Midnight Blue had an interrupted preparation to the Cup suffering a hoof abscess.

"That was a bit unfortunate, but he caught up he hadn't lost a lot of work he obviously just had the ability to be there."

"He's just developed and matured, you just have to look at him how big and strong a horse he is."
