NBL fixture released

The Perth Wildcats will face the Sydney Kings in a round one NBL Grand Final rematch to start their season on January 15th, as the league confirmed the first five rounds of fixtures for the 2021 season on Thursday.

Having ended the season in controversial circumstances with the Wildcats leading the best of five game series 2-1 Perth were awarded the title having held a lead in the series, Sydney not willing to travel back to Perth for game four because of corona virus concerns.

The league will adopt a rolling fixture for the season because of potential travel restrictions around the country, the NBL avoiding hubs for the first five rounds with matches to be played around the various states in home courts.

The season will open with a local throw down between Melbourne United and South East Melbourne Phoenix on January 10th, a four day break before the Phoenix back up and host the Hawks at a venue yet to be confirmed.

Perth hosts the Kings at RAC Arena that same evening in what promises to be a grudge match between the teams, the dual reigning champions backing up two days later against Melbourne United at the same venue.

Trevor Gleeson's side will play away in round two to Adelaide and Cairns, returning home in round three to play the New Zealand Breakers.

February sees the Wildcats draw Melbourne (home) and the Hawks (away) in round four, before facing the Bullets at Nissan Arena in Brisbane in round five.

The next block of fixtures are scheduled to be released in mid to late January.
