Perth Glory say farewell to Castro

Perth Glory have finally confirmed that arguably one of the best players to don the Glory jumper Diego Castro is not returning.

Castro spent six seasons with the Glory and in that time became the third player to win the A-League's best player award the Johnny Warren Medal and took out the Glory's most prestigious player award three times.

The Spaniard had been non-committal about his future and gave him time to decide but when Daniel Sturridge became available the club had to move quick.

Glory owner Tony Sage was quick to heap praise on Castro.

“Diego has been phenomenal since day one of wearing the purple,” Sage said.

“In my opinion he has been the greatest visa player to visit Australia."

The former captain made 136 A-League appearances, scoring 49 goals with 30 assists.
