Ricciardo to leave McLaren



West Aussie Daniel Ricciardo faces an uncertain future in Formula One, the 33 year old set to part ways with his team McLaren at the end of 2022.


After weeks of speculation over his three-year deal, which was supposed to take him through to the end of 2023, the team and driver announced his departure in a statement.


"I wanted to share some news. It's not great," Ricciardo said in a video message shared to fans overnight. "It's bittersweet for sure, but I think it's best you hear it from me."

Ricciardo is likely to be replaced by fellow Australian driver Oscar Piastri, provided he can exit a contract with team Alpine.


It is unclear where Ricciardo will end up in 2023 however a return to Alpine, the team he left at the end of 2020 is seen as his likely destination.
