Rylie Morgan's Wednesday Ascot preview

Race 1 AUDI CENTRE PERTH HANDICAP 1000m

Selections: 1* - 3 – 2 – 5

Cut The Talk chased hard last start into 2nd behind My Bella Mae in a race that rated through the roof, who went onto take out an incredibly strong edition of the Cyril Flower Stakes over the weekend and looks one of the most exciting prospects in WA racing, don’t get many better formlines than that. Drops back into a midweek 54+ and can tow-ball the likely strong speed set by Bisector and Work In Progress who are both talented and very speedy.

Platinum Class next best.

Suggested Bet: Cut The Talk to win.

Race 2 MOTORONE MAIDEN 1100m

Selections: 9 – 6 – 8 – 4

Marmooga is a talented filly who has been plagued by bad barrier draws at her last couple. Loved the way last start over the 1000m after drawing 13 of 13 she sat 4 wide no cover throughout and kept coming through the line into 3rd. The booking of Holly here suggests they are going to show some really intent to roll forward and find a position on-speed. Takes some weight off her back too, if she can get across cheaply or to the breeze without doing too much work, this field lacks a bit of depth and she can prove too good for them.

Don’t Trust Judas looks quite green but very talented off the back of his 1000m trial win at Belmont, has gears and thought he looked the main danger.

Promised Bride has been chasing hard down in the Great Southern region of the state at her past couple and from the inside draw can take up a very prominent position, really honest conveyance.

Aroochacha’s trial was only fair to my eye, huge respect to the combination but not sure just yet he is one of their better ones.

Suggested Bet: Marmooga to win.

Race 3 KENDRICK AUTOMOTIVE MAIDEN 1100m

Selections: 4* - 3 – 12 – 14

Fluro Neuro is short and deservedly so. Beaten a lip on debut by a nice horse in Vision Of Grace before then running 2nd to Miss Drakova at his next start, who the start after ran 3rd in a Burgess Queen behind Laced Up Heels and Amelia’s Jewel. In my opinion, that’s the best 3yo form we’ve got her in WA so far this season and now under the care of Grant and Alana Williams, you’d suggest they add considerable polish to what he was already producing on the track. William Pike takes the ride, horse has terrific gate speed so should lob in a lovely position from the draw and prove very hard to beat, no surprises the market has gravitated this way.

Frantic War was wide throughout 1st up over the 1000m off the back of a pair of very impressive trials leading in and kept coming all the way to the line when just beaten a bob City Angel. Massive effort, can position up closer from the softer draw here and don’t suspect he will be a maiden long.

Have loved all the trials of Amber Glide leading into today’s debut. Slight query on where she gets to in the run from the draw but the Ross Price yard is firing at the moment and she looks to have plenty of ability.

She’s Imminent rattled home late in her most recent trial and after Luke Campbell’s claim only gets in here with 52kgs for the debut, looks to have an engine.

Suggested Bet: Fluro Neuro to win, but not much meat on the bone.

Race 4 THE KENDA TYRE HANDICAP 1000m

Selections: 2 – 3 – 10 – 1

Cruise To Victory always touted real ability as a 2yo when just a bit green and still hadn’t put it all together yet. Was tipped out, brought back in as a 3yo and his 1st up win down the Pinjarra straight five really took me. Travelled strongly down the “wrong” part of the straight, once asked for an effort he really ripped away from them late and the 2nd horse is already a subsequent winner from that event as well. Can hold a prominent position from barrier 2, if there’s any improvement back around a bend, he’s hard to beat again.

City Angel was a nice trial winner prior to the fresh win and was very well-backed before being uncharacteristically slow away. Pontiff had to zig and zag but she still packed too much firepower for them late and showed she certainly has more durability than I originally thought. Tricky draw to navigate but can go on with it.

Tanta Bellezza was a really nice trial for a yard that has been firing in recent times and looks over the odds on the minimum.

Rock This Town is very fast but stepped slowly last start, a repeat of that and he might really struggle to get across.

Suggested Bet: Cruise To Victory to win.

Race 5 MADDINGTON & CANNING VALE TOYOTA HANDICAP 1500m

Selections: 3 – 4 – 5 – 2

Alaskalot looks the obvious coming through the Pinjarra Breeders Classic with how well that form reference stood up over the weekend. Got a long way off them on a day it was terribly difficult to make ground and thought he hit the line nicely late beaten only 3L All The King’s Men. Looks a horse that is only going to get stronger over more ground and back into a midweek CL1 from a soft draw, looks very hard to knock if he can keep progressing. Just a slight query on the fact he did have a small setback after being trodden on at the 250m of that Breeders Classic, returning to scale with a bruised tendon. Fingers crossed he is all over that to be starting here.

Axeman’s Jazz is a real scopey, Dundeel gelding for Grant and Alana Williams that certainly looks a WATC Derby prospect. The 2nd trial was better than his 1st and one of the rare few types I could say that 1500m fresh is a set-up that I like for him.

Diamond Scene box-seated in a very weak maiden over this trip at Pinjarra last start and was able to get the job done. Peters horses always progress the more racing they get under their belt, but not completely sold on him yet.

Kelvinater was run off his legs 1st up in 3yo company at 1100m. Trial prior to that was awesome, the query being the 5 weeks between runs.

Suggested Bet: Alaskalot to win, but taking a cautious approach.

Race 6 STATEWIDE OIL HANDICAP 1200m

Selections: 6 – 4 – 1 – 3

Dazzling Dane races 1st up here for the new yard joining Simon Miller’s ranks and brings plenty of interest for me. A horse that has always flashed plenty of ability when she was with Raquel Williams, she just ran into plenty of unsuitable races and her racing pattern hurt her ultimately. Joins the Miller camp, which should really only bring her on as a racehorse and gets the Blinkers on here for the 1st time in her career which is a terrific sign of intent. Not asked for any ounce of effort in her recent trial and thought she got to the line super as a result. Looks like there are enough speed influences in this race to ensure a genuine tempo and convinced she can run a very good race fresh for the new yard if she doesn’t get too far back.

Major Max is a very nice horse. Put away a really strong 3yo field the last time we saw him and his recent trial seems to show that he may have even come back better after a spell. Is still a CL1 racing in a CL3, but he looks to have stacks of ability and can take up a prominent position from the low draw. Suspect they might try and find some cover with him stalking the speed, not sure the breeze would be an ideal position for him to race from 1st up.

Avoidance is a new acquisition from NSW for Grant and Alana Williams and looks quality. 1st up record says he may just need this run to really bring him on but thought his recent trial at Belmont under William Pike (who takes the ride here) was really solid. Wouldn’t surprise to see him win.

Predetermined ran a strong 3rd in a good race 1st up in WA behind Hola Marea after leading. Can likely hold up in front here from barrier 1 but this race looks a lot deeper. Gangemi stable off the back of what they delivered on the weekend just starting to really warm up again after a quiet period.

Suggested Bet: Dazzling Dane each way, Major Max the main danger.

Race 7 SADLEIRS HANDICAP 1800m

Selections: 9 – 7 – 3 – 12

Was big on the chances of Queen Of Jerusalem in a Saturday 60+ the last time we saw her. In a slowly run race, thought Chris Parnham pulled the wrong reign opting to circle the field and take her to the front mid race when I felt there was the perfect opportunity to slot in 3 deep with cover and get the same run the eventual winner of the race Currimundi got, but that’s racing. She will be winning better races than this in due course I’m sure, Clint Johnston Porter hops aboard and will just need some room to extricate her off the fence at the right time and she can bounce back.

Beat The Bro I give a really good chance here out to 1800m. Loved his last run over the mile in better grade, very slowly run race, was very slow away and loved the way he got through the line late in an unsuitable race given how it was run. The last time we saw him over 1800m, he ran 3rd in a 72+ and now carries 1kg less in a 60+. Drawn well, can position up a pair or two closer and this is great placement.

Wee Ripper is building into the prep nicely. Terrific 1st up in a fast run race, not suited by how slow they went 2nd up, think Troy Turner will look to race very positive here and ensure there is some tempo in the race, that is where he does his best racing.

High Commission is drawn very sticky but will come across to sit over the speed, beat home a subsequent winner 1st up at Pinjarra when suited by the pattern of that day but you’d suspect there’s still improvement to come with him.

Suggested Bet: Queen Of Jerusalem on top but short at $2.00, something small on Beat The Bro each way poses more value the way the market shapes currently.

Race 8 TABTOUCH - HAVE YOU GOT THE TOUCH HANDICAP 1400m

Selections: 1 – 2 – 6 – 9

Noble Born wasn’t asked for any effort in her recent trial but went to the line well. Can cross over into a very prominent position for Holly Watson and races very well fresh. In a very difficult race, we’ll put her on top. Only missed the money once in 9 career starts.

Romancing The Rock gives the feel he will only get better the more racing he gets under his belt. Thought his recent trial was super and went really well racing against some nice horses in CL1/CL3 company last preparation. Pike on for Grant and Alana Williams from barrier 2, he will be very popular in the get-out.

Guard The Safe maps for the run of the race and chased home hard in a strong race last start behind Hola Marea.

Rock My Way is a very nice filly for Danny Morton and while the draw here hurts, she has a big finish on her and gets in with next to no weight on her back after the claim for Luke Campbell who is back in the saddle today.

Suggested Bet: Toughest race of the day to finish, Noble Born on top but no interest from a betting perspective.

Best Bets
