Scorchers trounce Hurricanes

The Perth Scorchers have secured their third successive win in BBL09, defeating the Hobart Hurricanes by 77 runs at Blundstone Arena on Monday night.

Invited to bat first Perth posted 7-175 from their 20 overs, a 109 run partnership between opener Josh Inglis (73) and Mitch Marsh (41) the cornerstone of the innings.

Liam Livingstone (3) and Sam Whiteman (8) were early casualties, bringing Inglis and Marsh together at 2-16.

Inglis continued his breakout season, striking four fours and four sixes as he recorded his fourth BBL fifty, three coming this summer.

Tom Rogers claimed 2-30 for Hobart, who pulled things back late in the innings to set up a chase of 176 for victory.

Jhye Richardson struck twice in three balls to remove star batsmen Matthew Wade (3) and David Miller (0) in the second over of the Hurricanes chase, leaving them in early trouble at 2-5.

Aside from a 41 run partnership for the third wicket between Caleb Jewell (28) and veteran George Bailey (36) the home side's chase never got going as the Scorchers bowlers made regular breakthroughs, Hobart all out for 98 in the 18th over.

Richardson was the star of the show, taking 4-19 from 4 overs, Fawad Ahmed taking 2-15 and Liam Livingstone 2-4.

The win propels Perth to third spot on the BBL table, ahead of a return home to host ladder leaders Melbourne Stars on Wednesday.
