Serong commits to Freo

2020 AFL Rising Star winner Caleb Serong has penned a contract extension with Fremantle to tie him to the club until the end of 2023, the club confirmed on Friday.

Serong, taken with pick 8 in the 2019 Draft has signed a two year deal, on top of his current contract which expires at the end of 2021.

He joins fellow top ten pick Liam Henry in committing the club until 2023, while defender Brennan Cox has also signed a contract extension until the end of 2022.

The 19-year old said he was excited about his future at Fremantle, saying the club was on the cusp of something special.

“I just love the family feel around the club. Everyone is really close and it’s a really young group,” Serong said.

“We’re really close-knit and it’s really exciting what we’re building.

“It was a really easy decision for me, I was able to do it as soon as I could and I’m really excited to be locked in for a few more years.”

Serong was last week confirmed as the 2020 Rising Star winner, the third Docker to win the award after Paul Haselby and Rhys Palmer, having also been crowned the AFL Players Association best young player.
