Short added to T20 squad

D'Arcy Short has been added to the Australian T20 International squad for the for the three match series against India, replacing David Warner who has been ruled out with a groin injury.

Meanwhile fast bowler and vice-captain Pat Cummins has been rested from the 3rd ODI and the following T20's, given time to prepare for the Test series commencing on December 17th.

Warner injured his groin in yesterday's 51 run win in the second ODI in Sydney on Sunday after diving to stop a ball in the fourth over of India's batting innings.

While the extent of the damage is yet to be fully revealed, Cricket Australia has ruled the opening batsman out of the remainder of the white ball matches, hopeful he will recover in time for the start of the Test series, at worst only missing the first Test in Adelaide.

Australia's' coach Justin Langer said Warner's timely return would be pivotal to the Test team's fortunes, in addition to giving Cummins some time off following his IPL stint and lengthy quarantine.

"Pat and Davey are critical to our plans for the Test Series," Langer said. "Davey will work through his injury rehab and in Pat's case it is important all of our players are managed well to keep them mentally and physically fit throughout what is a challenging summer. The priority for both is being fully prepared for one of the biggest and most important home Test Series we have played in recent years, especially with World Test Championship points up for grabs."

Short has played 20 T20I's for his country, the last in February 2019 but has been a consistent run scorer for the Hobart Hurricanes, coming off 357 runs in nine games last summer at an average of 44.

Meanwhile, allrounder Mitchell Marsh will not join the Australia A squad for the matches against India as he continues his recovery from the ankle injury sustained at the IPL. He will now target a return in the BBL with the Perth Scorchers.
