Short ton flattens Scorchers

Hobart Hurricanes opening batsman D'Arcy Short's second BBL century led his side to an eight run win over the Perth Scorchers at Optus Stadium tonight.

Short's unbeaten 103 was the cornerstone of the Hurricanes total of 2-180 batting first, the West Australian state player afforded four lives in his knock that featured three fours and seven sixes.

Late inclusion Tim David was the fielding offender two occasions, the Claremont-Nedlands all-rounder coming in for an unwell Ashton Turner.

Perth lost three wickets in the powerplay as they slumped to 3-18, before Mitch Marsh (48) and Cameron Green (33) added some life to the contest.

Both men fell in quick succession as the chase lost it's momentum, a late cameo from Jhye Richardson (33*) in vain as the visitors held on for their third win of the BBL season.

Scott Boland and Nathan Ellis claimed two wickets each for Hobart, the only downside in the performance being a suspected side strain for fast bowler Riley Meredith and a calf concern for South African import David Miller.

The Scorchers play Melbourne Renegades at GMHBA Stadium in Geelong in their next fixture on Tuesday.
