Shuey signs on for 2023

Luke Shuey's career will continue in to a 14th AFL season, putting pen to paper on a contract extension for 2023.

The 32 year old's past three seasons have been blighted by soft tissue injuries, restricting him to just 36 games since the start of 2020.

He has been captain for that length of time replacing premiership team mate Shannon Hurn in the role, the 2018 Norm Smith Medalist set to weigh up whether to continue as leader next year.

“He’s our captain. It’s good to get that done," coach Adam Simpson said on Thursday.

While he might not be back to his best, he’s had some really good continuity and I’m seeing really good signs. He’s really important for the club."

Shuey is one of a number of veterans set to play on in 2023, with Nic Naitanui, Shannon Hurn and Jack Redden all set to extend their careers in to another year.
