Simmons suspended by 76ers

Australian NBA star Ben Simmons has been suspended by the Philadelphia 76ers for one game "conduct detrimental to the team".

Simmons requested a trade from the 76ers during the off-season which did not eventuate and he returned to training last week, albeit disinterested.

76ers coach Doc Rivers clearly decided he'd had enough and threw Simmons out of their training session.

He later played down the incident when speaking to the media.

"I thought he was a distraction today," Rivers said.

"I didn't think he wanted to do what everyone else was doing.

"It was early, it wasn't a big deal and I just told him he should leave then."

Simmons has been suspended for one match by the team and will miss their NBA season opener.
