Sixers crowned BBL champions

The Sydney Sixers are the Big Bash League champions defeating the Melbourne Stars 19-runs in a rain-shortened final at the SCG.

Josh Phillipe scored a fast paced half century belting 52 from 29 balls including four boundaries and three sixes to lead the Sixers to post 5/116 from their 12 overs.

The Stars run chase never gathered any momentum after Marcus Stoinis fell in the first over to Nathan Lyon.

Nic Maddinson and Glenn Maxwell fell in the second and third overs of the match respectively to dim the Stars hopes.

Nick Larkin battled hard finishing 38 not out and Nathan Coulter-Nile 19 not out as the Stars reached 6/97.

The Sixers were deserving champions after having beaten the Stars in both finals the two teams had met in.
