Star Giant sidelined

Acting Greater Western Sydney Giants captain Toby Greene will miss up to a month of football with a shoulder injury, ruling him out of his side's crunch clash with West Coast on Sunday.

Greene suffered the injury during the third quarter of his side's loss to Richmond at Docklands on Saturday night, bravely playing out the match before scans on Sunday confirmed a fracture to his right shoulder.

The 27 year old has been the Giants most impactful player in 2021, averaging 18 disposals and 2 goals per game with two hauls of five goals in consecutive matches against Melbourne and Sydney in May.

Greene recently signed a contract extension to make him a one club player, signing on till the end of 2026 having originally signed a six year deal to the end of 2024 three years ago.

The 2016 All-Australian's injury is the latest in a long list of casualties for the expansion club, with Phil Davis (hamstring), captain Stephen Coniglio (ankle), Matt DeBoer (hamstring) and Brent Daniels (hamstring) all sidelined.

Nick Haynes is likely to return to combat the Eagles tall forward line for the round ten fixture, West Coast likely to welcome back premiership players Shannon Hurn (calf) and Liam Ryan (shin) for the Sunday afternoon clash at the Sydney Showgrounds.
