Sumich left unsure about West Coast's selection direction

Dual West Coast premiership player Peter Sumich has questioned his former teams selection ahead of their clash against the Cats.

The Eagles have selected Willie Rioli, Elliott Yeo, Dom Sheed, Jack Petrucelle, Jeremy McGovern, Jamaine Jones and debutant Rhett Bazzo for Saturday's match.

Sumich said he wasn't happy with some of those players coming in after watching their WAFL side in recent weeks.

"I think we (West Coast) are still uncertain at the selection table, where is the club going. Rhett Bazzo great decision but I don't think he deserves his spot right now on his performances."

"Some of the other selections I'm a bit concerned, I'm still unsure which way the Eagles are going."

"Are they going down a path for years to come or are they going down a path to say we still like you as a person and as a player which can get you into trouble and we will still pick you just because you're a certain player."

"Yeo, Willie Rioli and that, do they deserve to come in, Petrucelle they have played okay footy. Rioli had 12 touches last week he played in the midfield for I reckon 50 per cent of the game. I mean is that good enough?."

When asked whether he believed that soft selection was leading to soft performances Sumich believed so.

"Their fitness worries me, if it's Geelong as it's a good day I reckon we will see another belting."
