Taylor signs with Sharks

Former Geelong premiership defender Harry Taylor has signed for the remainder of the 2021 season with his former WAFL club East Fremantle, the club confirmed on Thursday.

The 35 year old retired from AFL football after last year's AFL Grand Final having played 280 games in the navy blue and white hoops, initially opting not to sign with the Sharks in the 2021 campaign to instead take an off-field role with the club's Mid-West Academy.

Taylor has spent the 2021 season playing with his original club Northampton, kicking 43 goals in just eight games in the Great Northern Football League.

"We’ve been monitoring his playing progress in the GNFL and with some long term injuries to some of our key position players, an opportunity arose to bring him back to play at the Sharks," East Fremantle Football Manger Brad Dodd said.

Harry has always been a fantastic ambassador for the club and we’re excited to see him back playing in the Blue and White.”

Taylor, who played 49 games for the club before being drafted to Geelong from 2005 and 2007 was excited to be back in the WAFL system at Moss Street.

“I’m really looking forward to getting out on the field with the boys. I’m keen to help East Fremantle in their push to become a consistently competitive club in the WAFL," he said.

I’m a competitive person and can’t wait to get back out there and play my part. There’s a lot of talent in the key position stocks at East Fremantle but unfortunately there’s been a few injuries. Hopefully I can fill a gap until the cavalry arrives.”

The Sharks round 13 clash with East Perth will not take place this weekend due to Perth's lockdown, with more information on the re-scheduling of the fixture expected over the coming days.
