Twilight Payment wins Melbourne Cup

Twilight Payment has produced an upset win in the 2020 Melbourne Cup, storming home to win the race that stops a nation on Tuesday.

The Jye McNeil-ridden outsider finished ahead of favourites Tiger Moth in second, and Prince Of Arran in third over 3200 metres at an empty Flemington Racecourse.

The seven year old, who is trained by Joseph O'Brien and owned by Lloyd Williams took home the 4.4 million dollar prize in Australia's most prestigious horse race.

'There's too many emotions... It's a very big moment,' Mcneil said as he rode back to the winners circle.

'I've got goose bumps. First and foremost, I'd like to thank Joseph O'Brien, Mr Williams, and the whole family for the opportunity today.

'I'm absolutely stoked I could pull it off.'

This year's Melbourne Cup was like no other as racegoers were not allowed to attend the event due to the coronavirus pandemic.
