WA announce contract list

Veteran batsman Shaun Marsh will play on in to a 22nd season of first class cricket, announced as a member of the state's contract list on Thursday.

Marsh, who finally tasted Sheffield Shield success having debuted in 2001 for his state has decided to play on in to season 2022/23, continuing a sensational career that began before Shield winning team mate Teague Wyllie was born.

"I’m really pleased that (Shaun Marsh) wants to go around again for another season," coach Adam Voges said.

"We had a good chat after the Shield Final, and he's indicated he's really keen to get stuck in for another year.

"He'll not only provide great leadership for our squad, but he's also one of our better players and his ability to mentor some of the up-and-coming guys is invaluable."

Liam Guthrie is the only noticeable change to the WA squad, having opted to take up an opportunity in state cricket with Queensland after spending BBL11 with the Brisbane Heat.

Young guns Teague Wyllie, Sam Fanning and Bryce Jackson all received state contracts, while Sam Greer (Fremantle) and Hamish McKenzie (Subiaco-Floreat) were handed rookie contracts having had terrific 2021-22 grade campaigns.

Charlie Stobo has been upgraded from a rookie deal to a full contract after impressing with University since arriving from New South Wales two seasons ago.

WA's list also features five players with Cricket Australia central contracts – Ashton Agar, Cameron Green, Josh Inglis, Mitch Marsh and Marcus Stoinis.

Josh Philippe has signed a two year contract extension while star all rounder Aaron Hardie locked in a three year deal, both playrers recently added to the Australia A squad for the tour of Sri Lanka.
