WAFL Grand Final returns to Optus Stadium

The 2023 WAFL Grand Final will be played at Optus Stadium, the WA Football Commission confirmed on Wednesday.

The decision comes after two of the past three deciders have been played away from the premier WA football venue, with Fremantle Oval hosting in 2020 due to covid-19 and a scheduling clash in 2022.

The 2023 WAFL Grand Final will be played on Sunday September 24th, a week earlier than recent seasons in a decision already announced by the WAFC.

WA Football Commission CEO Michael Roberts believed the decision was the best for fans.

“Optus Stadium is the premier facility in the State and we felt it was important for the players and fans to experience WAFL at a world class venue," he said.

We’ll be working closely with the team at VenuesLive and Optus Stadium to celebrate the biggest day on the WAFL calendar.

The 2021 WAFL Grand Final between Subiaco and South Fremantle at Optus attracted nearly 30,000 fans and we believe this year’s premiership decider can deliver another bumper crowd."

The 2023 WAFL season begins on the Easter long weekend, starting April 7th.
