WAFL Round Three Preview

Round 3: Statistical Preview

East Fremantle v East Perth

Fact: This is the first time these teams have played against each other in a country fixture. Northampton will become the 25th ground East Fremantle have played a league game at and their 8th different country venue. For East Perth, Northampton will be the 26th venue they have played at and their 11th country venue. A win for East Fremantle will be their third in a row against East Perth, something the Sharks have not achieved against the Royals since 2012.

In 2022: East Perth are both the highest scoring team (avg. 104.5 points) and the most accurate (32.17 at 65.31%) whilst the Sharks have conceded the most points (95 equal with Perth) and had the most accurate scores kicked against them (29.16 at 64.44%).

South Fremantle v Claremont

Fact: Seven of the last nine games between these teams have been decided by 16 points or less with South Fremantle winning the last three by eleven, one, and one points. This will be the fourth time in a row and the 10th time in their last 11 meetings that these team have played at Fremantle Oval.

In 2022: With both teams starting the season 2-0, this will be the fourth time these teams have played against each other with a 2-0 record. The other times were in 1939 where Claremont won by 38 points and in 1940 and 2020 where South Fremantle won on both occasions by 8 points.

Subiaco v West Perth

Fact: A loss to Subiaco will see them start a season 0-3 for the first time since 1994. It would also be the first time the Lions have lost three games in a row since an eight game losing streak from rounds 13-21, 2013. Subiaco have won their last four games against West Perth at Leederville Oval, with the Falcons last defeating the Lions at Leederville in 2016.

In 2022: Neither team has lost a first quarter or won a second quarter.

West Coast v Peel Thunder

Fact: West Coast have now lost their last six games and another loss in round 3 will leave them one loss short of equalling their record eight game losing streak from the 1st semi final of 2019 to round 9, 2021.

In 2022: These teams rank #9 and #10 in disposals per game. Peel are 9th averaging 300 per game whilst the Eagles are 10th averaging 293.50. The league average is 325.45 disposals per game.

Perth v Swan Districts

Fact: Swan Districts have won the last three games against Perth, which is their longest win streak against the Demons since a five game streak from 2017 to 2018. Swans have been stuck on 749 league wins for their last five games having lost 4 of those five games by 9 points or less - the other was by 22 points. Perth have defeated Swans at Lathlain Park only once since 2017 – a 6 point win in 2019.

In 2022: Swans lead the league averages in kicks (331.5), marks (113.5) and free kicks for (25) whilst they are last in handballs (112.5). Perth rank third for marks (86) and free kicks for (21). The Demons are the most inaccurate side so far with 15 goals 21 behinds from their two games.
