West Aussie Ebden a Wimbledon champion

Western Australian Matt Ebden is a Wimbledon champion after he and Max Purcell combined to defeat defending champions Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic 7-6, 6-7, 6-4, 7-6.

The pair took over four hours to claim victory in an epic title deciding triumph and in the process becoming the first Australian pair since Todd Woodbridge and Mark Woodforde 22-years ago.

“Speechless,” Ebden said. “Won Wimbledon.

“People say as a kid they dreamed of winning Wimbledon. I don’t even know if I did that.”

It's been an incredible ride for Ebden and Purcell who just two days earlier saved five match points in their-semi final clash to make it to the final.

The victory came for Ebden off the back of falling short in the mixed doubles final with another fellow Aussie Sam Stosur on Thursday.
