World Cup 2023 - Matildas learn their fate as England hit China for six - Match Day 13

Denmark has eased past Haiti on Match Day 13 to set up a Round of 16 date with Australia.

A goal in each half was enough for Denmark to ease past the Caribbean debutants in front of 18,000 fans in Perth. Pemille Harder got the Scandinavians off the mark from the penalty spot in the 21st minute while Sanne Troelsgaard finished off the win in injury time as she beat Haitian keeper, Kerly Théus. The win will see Denmark take on Australia's Matildas next Monday at Stadium Australia in Sydney. In the other match in Group D, Lauren James inspired England to a massive 6-1 win over China at Hindmarsh Stadium in Adelaide. Alessia Russo opened the floodgates for England just four minutes in before Lauren Hemp doubled the advantage. Just before half time it was James' turn to get involved, as she scored either side of the break including a left-foot volley which could be a contender for goal of the tournament. Late goals to Chloe Kelly and Rachel Daly topped off the 6-1 thrashing with England now marching into their Round of 16 match -up with Nigeria.

In Group E, Netherlands finished top after they put seven goals past Vietnam, while the United States stumbled into the knockouts after surviving a late scare in their nil-all draw with Portugal. Despite the bright start, the United States struggled to find the net against a stubborn Portuguese defence. USA star Alex Morgan went close on numerous occasions as did Portugal's Jessica Silva but neither striker was able to break the deadlock. Tension grew late in the match as Portugal missed a golden chance in injury time when substitute Ana Capeta beat the offside trap to shoot past the USA keeper, only for the ball to cannon back off the upright.

United States will now likely face Sweden in their Round of 16 clash while Netherlands will face the second ranked team in Group G. Match Day 14 will see the final group games in Group G and Group F. A point for Sweden against Argentina this afternoon will secure top spot in Group G while a draw for Italy against South Africa will see Le Azzurre also through to the knockout phase. Group F will come down to the wire as France face Panama while Jamaica will take on Brazil, with all teams except Panama still with a chance to progress.
