Perth 1.11 (17) def by. Swan Districts 4.7 (31)

Round 5 in the WAFLW kicked off under the lights at Mineral Resources Park on Friday, with the Swans extending their undefeated streak to five straight wins.

Jaime Henry continues to improve with each week, recording a season high 39 disposals and 16 tackles and yet to record below 30 touches for the year.

Perth dominated in the ruck with Molly Warne hitting it out 26 times and Isabella Shannon was once again best on ground for the Demons, but it wasn’t enough to put them in the lead in the second half.

Inaccuracy was the story of the day for Perth with Poppy Stockwell kicking the only goal for the day, the team recording an accuracy of 8.33% in front of goals.

Swan districts cement themselves as premiership favourites and now sit clear in first.

Subiaco 6.10 (46) def. Peel thunder 6.2 (38)

Four quarter footy under the lights at Sullivan Logistics Stadium saw Subiaco come away with their third win of the season, defeating Peel Thunder by eight points.

Inaccuracy from the Lions gave the Thunder a show of mercy – an accuracy of 37.5% in front of goals robbing Subiaco of a percentage boost.

The home side controlled possession throughout the day with Paige Sheppard notching up 41 disposals (13 tackles, 8 marks, 4 inside 50s) for herself, help from Lisa Steane and Krstel Petrevksi adding 36 and 27 respectively to keep the ball managed for Subiaco.

Despite the loss the Thunder were extremely accurate in front of goals kicking a major 75% of the time, with Kate Bartlett putting three on the scoreboard.

Peel continue to struggle to get their season started, remaining winless after five rounds of football.

West Perth 5.8 (38) def. South Fremantle 4.6 (30)

Tight competition saw West Perth get over the line in a close match against South Fremantle, winning at home by eight points on Sunday.

The Bulldogs struggled to remain competitive on the scoreboard after the first quarter but booted three majors in the final term to give themselves a chance.

Tackle pressure was key in their strategy, recording 29 more tackles than the Falcons led by Jasmine Bazeley with 11 and Natasha Entwistle with nine.

Kate Newson has proved herself once again in the ruck with a season high 36 hitouts for the Dogs, but the home side weren’t fazed as their ability to convert inside 50 entries on the scoreboard saw them lead throughout the entirety of the match.

Ellee McEvoy was a standout for West Perth walking off the ground with 24 disposals, 7 tackles, 3 marks and 2 inside 50s.

Claremont 10.6 (66) def. East Perth 6.4 (40)

The Tigers chalked up their third win of the season triumphing over East Perth at home on Sunday in a 26-point victory.

Juliet Kelly dominated for Claremont recording 36 disposals, 11 tackles, 6 entries and 5 marks, also hitting the scoreboard with a goal.

With 23 more tackles, pressure around the football from the Tigers was a huge factor in their success.

Liz McGrath won the ruck for the Royals hitting the footy out 32 times, but East Perth’s midfield craft couldn’t keep up with Claremont’s over the duration of the match.

Matilda Sergeant and Sarah Viney aided Kelly in her performance, adding a further nine entries for the Tigers to present them with ample opportunities to take the victory.
